What is Nano?
"Nano" is a Greek word for dwarf.
Nanometer = 10 -9 meter
- Potential to reach 15% of the world's manufacturing revenue (presently 0.1%)
- Bigger than IT and biotechnology industry combined
- Accounts for 4% of industrial, 50% of IT, and 16% of health care/life products
- 10 Million new jobs by 2014
Individual atoms are smaller than nano scale.
Protons and neutrons are even smaller, but they cannot form functional devices.
The nano scale is the smallest scale that defines functionality. In other words,
it is the smallest scale for a device.
